The Holy Shroud of Turin (Sacra Sindone) is venerated by the faithful as the burial linen in which the body of Our Lord Jesus Christ was wrapped in the tomb. The image on the cloth corresponds to the wounds of crucifixion and burial described in the Gospels. The Church does not require belief in its authenticity as a matter of faith, but encourages it as an aid to contemplating Christ’s Passion and Resurrection.
