The Holy Shroud of Turin (Sacra Sindone) is venerated by Catholics as the linen burial cloth in which the body of Our Lord Jesus Christ was laid in the tomb after the crucifixion. The full-length image on the cloth is consistent with the scourging, crowning with thorns, crucifixion, and burial recounted in the Gospels.

The Catholic Church has never defined the Shroud’s authenticity as a dogma; she permits the faithful to honor it as a sacred icon that leads to meditation on Christ’s Passion, death, and Resurrection.
